A shocking Ministry of Defense report on the Russian scientific team that has successfully drilled 3,768 meters into the world’s largest submerged lake on the continent of Antarctica, believed to be untouched for over 20 million years, states that the underwater video camera discovered the“striking image” of a “golden-like swastika” estimated to be no less than 100 meters in height and width.

According to this report, the discovery of this underwater swastika was made on 30 January after which the Ministry ordered into silence the scientists who have been working on this project for the past 20 years until highly specialized encrypted communication devices could be delivered to them and sparking fears among many that they were missing as they had been “out of communication” for 5 days.

Upon their receiving their new communication “devices” the scientists released their first report to the world through Russian state media’s RIA Novosti which added into their announcement of this historic mission the following:

“It is thought that towards the end of the Second World War, the Nazis moved to the South Pole and started constructing a base at Lake Vostok. In 1943, Grand Admiral Karl Dontiz was quoted saying “Germany’s submarine fleet is proud that it created an unassailable fortress for the Fuehrer on the other end of the world,” in Antarctica.

According to German naval archives, months after Germany surrendered to the Allies in April, 1945, the German submarine U-530 arrived at the South Pole from the Port of Kiel. Crewmembers constructed an ice cave and supposedly stored several boxes of relics from the Third Reich, including Hitler’s secret files.

It is also rumored that later the submarine U-977 delivered the remains of Adolf Hitler and Eva Braun to Antarctica for DNA cloning purposes.

The subs then entered the Argentinean port of Mar-del-Plata and surrendered to authorities.”

Lake Vostok is the largest of more than 140 sub-glacial lakes found under the surface of Antarctica. The overlying ice provides a continuous paleoclimatic record of 400,000 years, although the lake water itself may have been isolated for 15 to 25 million years.  It is located at the southern Pole of Cold, beneath Russia’s Vostok Station under the surface of the central East Antarctic Ice Sheet, which is at 3,488 metres (11,444 ft) above mean sea level. The surface of this fresh water lake is approximately 4,000 m (13,100 ft) under the surface of the ice, which places it at approximately 500 m (1,600 ft) below sea level. Measuring 250 km (160 mi) long by 50 km (30 mi) wide at its widest point, and covering an area of 15,690 km2 (6,060 sq mi), it is similar in area to Lake Ontario, but with over three times the volume.

Russia’s St. Petersburg Nuclear Physics Institute developed the drilling technique employed by Russian scientist which has involved the use of freon and kerosene to lubricate the borehole and prevent it from collapsing and freezing over; 60 tons of these chemicals have been used thus far on the ice above Lake Vostok. Other countries, particularly the United States and Britain, have failed to persuade the Russians not to pierce to the lake until cleaner technologies such as hot-water drilling are available.

Russian interest in Antarctica, particularly Lake Vostok, where heightened after World War II when in 1947 American Admiral Richard E. Byrd led 4,000 military troops from the US., Britain and Australia in an invasion of Antarctica called “Operation Highjump” but who were reported to have encountered heavy resistance from Nazi “flying saucers” and had to call off the invasion.

Most interesting to note about Admiral Byrd’s Operation Highjump mission was his solo flight towards the South Pole on 19 February 1947 wherein he recorded in his diary the following: [see entire transcript here]

1005 Hours- I alter altitude to 1400 feet and execute a sharp left turn to better examine the valley below. It is green with either moss or a type of tight knit grass. The light here seems different. I cannot see the Sun anymore. We make another left turn and we spot what seems to be a large animal of some kind below us. It appears to be an elephant! NO!!! It looks more like a mammoth! This is incredible! Yet, there it is! Decrease altitude to 1000 feet and take binoculars to better examine the animal. It is confirmed – it is definitely a mammoth-like animal! Report this to base camp.

1030 Hours- Encountering more rolling green hills now. The external temperature indicator reads 74 degrees Fahrenheit! Continuing on our heading now. Navigation instruments seem normal now. I am puzzled over their actions. Attempt to contact base camp. Radio is not functioning!”

Though deliberately obscured by the West today, Nazi German leader Adolph Hitler was obsessed with New Swabia (German: Neuschwabenland) which was the name given to the area of Antarctica located  between 20°E and 10°W in Queen Maud Land which he believed would one day be the world capital of his “master race.”

Soviet archives have extensive files detailing that Nazi Germany and the United States forged an alliance prior to the end of World War II allowing Hitler and cohorts to escape to their Antarctica base in exchange for German technology that included the atomic bomb and advanced fighter jet, rocket and flying saucer technology.

Not known to all but of few about Nazi German flying saucer technology were that German brothers Walter Horten (1913-1998) and Reimar Horten (1915-1994), who were not only devout followers of Hitler, but were, also, the most advanced flying craft engineers in the world who not only invented the “flying saucer,” but, also, deliberately fabricated the American UFO incident in 1948 known as Roswell in conjunction with the Soviets to destabilize the United States.

Interesting to note in this report is its only mentioning the “golden swastika” without any Nazi affiliation, which is important when this most ancient of symbols is taken into its correct and complete context.

Far from its being the symbol of the Nazi Empire, the swastika is our world’s oldest known symbol that dates back to the Indus Valley Civilization of Ancient India, as well as Classical Antiquity, and due to the extreme amount of time estimated in the millions of years since man last looked into the depths of Lake Vostok, it is entirely possible that what has now been discovered in Antarctica may very well be another clue to who we are and where we really come from.

The evidence for this “golden swastika” predating the Nazis is further bolstered by the Finaeus (1531) and Piri Reis (1513) maps of Antarctica used by Western explorers to “discover” the New World and showing it to be ice free with flowing rivers, drainage patterns and a clean coastline.

To whatever the origin of this mystery will be it is not in our knowing, other than to note that as we progress further into this most climatic of years, 2012, even more shocking discoveries and revelations will surely await us all.

Former NSA analyst, Jim Stone, argues that there was no mag 9.0 earthquake. The tsunami was caused by nuclear bombs in the sea and the Fukushima explosion and meltdown was caused by mini-nukes hidden in cameras installed by an Israeli security firm. The motive: punish Japan for offering to enrich Iranian uranium and straying from Illuminati diktat. When we compare the  6.8-magnitude earthquake which devastated Kobe, Japan January 17, 1995 with Fukushima, the evidence does not stack up.

A quick Google Images search of Kobe reveals incredible destruction of buildings, bridges, elevated highways, and other infrastructure.

The Fukushima quake, magnitude 9.0, struck about 70 km off the coast of Japan on March 11, 2011.

It sent a 15-meter tsunami crashing over perfectly undamaged bridges, houses, roads, and cars – over a populace which had not been warned of the incoming tsunami, because there was no mag 9.0 earthquake. They were taken completely off-guard. Yet helicopters were waiting, and people all over Japan got to watch the tsunami roll in on live TV.

What on earth was going on? Ordinarily, the Japanese people are warned of tsunamis. Why weren’t they warned? Why was there no structural damage, no reason for them to suspect that a tsunami was coming?

The quake must have seemed like nothing special to a nation of people who are used to quakes. In a video taken in one Tokyo newsroom during the Fukushima quake, staff were seen to continue typing at their computer stations, totally unfazed by it.

A 9.0-magnitude earthquake is more than 100 times stronger than a 6.8. A 9.0 should have devastated everything within a 1,000-km radius. There should have been widespread urban carnage, even worse than what Kobe suffered.

Yet the Fukushima quake of 3/11/11 did not cause a single structure to collapse.

But don’t take my word for it. Go look up the helicopter footage on YouTube.  Look at the infrastructure the tsunami was crashing onto. Not the slightest bit of damage. Common sense is enough to make you wonder.

Jim Stone did more than wonder. He dug up and analyzed the Japanese seismograms. He proved there was no 9.0 quake, and no epicenter out at sea. Instead, there were three simultaneous quakes of much lesser magnitude, all of them inland.

The authorities lied about the 9.0 quake — made it up out of whole cloth. An earthquake did not cause the tsunami. There must have been another cause.

Reactors Destroyed by Nukes

It turns out that the official explanation for the Fukushima reactor explosions was bogus as well. Nuclear power containment walls are extremely thick and strong. Hydrogen explosions could never have destroyed them. As a historical reference, hydrogen explosions occurred at Three Mile Island and caused no structural damage, nor even any injuries to plant personnel.

Furthermore, Reactor Four contained no fuel on 3/11/11, and was therefore nonoperational — yet it exploded and was destroyed as completely as were the other reactors that day. Reactor Four is like Building 7 at the World Trade Center – an utter impossibility, a blatant smoking gun. A reactor containing no fuel cannot operate; a nonoperational reactor cannot explode unless someone explodes it. The destruction of Reactor Four can only have been the result of sabotage.

Israeli Involvement

In February 2010, Japan offered to enrich uranium for Iran. Soon thereafter, an Israeli firm by the name of Magna BSP secured a contract to run security at the Fukushima Daiichi plant. They installed oversized cameras strongly resembling gun-type nuclear weapons. There is strong evidence that they planted Stuxnet, an Israeli computer virus that attacks Siemens power plant control systems, and which Israel previously used to damage Iran’s nuclear program. Magna BSP also established internet data links in the reactor cores, in blatant violation of international nuclear regulations.

All twelve members of that security team returned to Israel in the week before 3/11/11. In the aftermath of the disaster, the Israelis publicly monitored the reactor cores via their illegal internet data links. Yet no one took them to task for this.

Jim Stone Targeted for Revealing Truth

What caused the tsunami? What destroyed the reactors?

Using skills honed as a former NSA analyst with an engineering background, Jim Stone concluded that Israel was behind the destruction of Fukushima Daiichi. Now he is paying the price.

Stone proved that there was no 9.0-magnitude quake to cause the tsunami. The tsunami must have been artificially induced, perhaps by an atomic bomb placed in the Japan Trench.

The tsunami was blamed for flooding the reactors and causing the explosions. But Stone presents compelling evidence that Israel destroyed the Fukushima Daiichi plant by installing gun-type nuclear weapons in the guise of security cameras, and then setting them off in the tsunami’s aftermath.

Stone demonstrates that the Stuxnet virus continues to distort sensor readings at the disaster site to this day.

Unlike many others in the world of whistle blowers, Stone bases his conclusions on hard evidence and unassailable logic. Anyone can review and challenge his work. He is open to it.

Since releasing his report and making several radio appearances to support it, Jim Stone has been harassed, threatened, unlawfully detained, and is currently facing prison time on completely trumped-up charges.

I have watched the reaction to his work on the net. Some have slandered him. Others have railroaded his work.

No one has debunked him yet.

His conclusions have ramifications that make 9/11 pale in significance.

Why, all across the alternative media, this roaring silence on the work of Jim Stone?

Russia dismissed denials by NATO and three alliance members about plans for military intervention in Syria, saying it has information that a no-fly zone and humanitarian corridors are under discussion.

“Our partners in the West are in fact discussing a no-fly zone,” Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told reporters in Moscow today. “There are other ideas being realized, including humanitarian convoys, in the hope they could provoke a response from government forces, border guards.”

Members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and some Persian Gulf countries are considering a repeat of the campaign in Libya, Nikolai Patrushev, the head of the Russian Security Council, said Jan. 12. Turkey, a NATO member, may play a key role and is working with the U.S. on a no-fly zone to protect Syrian rebels, he said. The U.K., France and Turkey, denied the same day that military intervention in Syria was an option.

French Foreign Minister Alain Juppe in November suggested setting up humanitarian corridors to deliver aid in Syria protected by military forces. Qatar last week said Arab troops should be dispatched to Syria to halt violence after Arab League observers failed to deter a crackdown on protests.

Russia will use its veto-wielding power to prevent the United Nations Security Council from approving any attempted military intervention in Syria, Lavrov said.

‘Their Own Initiative’

“If somebody decides to use force at any cost, I doubt we can stop them, but it will happen at their own initiative and let it be on their conscience,” he said. “They won’t get any mandate from the UN Security Council.”

Russia, which has Soviet-era ties with Syria, argues that UN-sanctioned bombing of Libya by NATO to protect civilians was used to bring about regime change and that western governments are trying to repeat that scenario in Syria.

Lavrov today also rejected U.S. criticism over a Russian arms shipment to Syria, saying it’s not violating international law by supplying weapons to the Middle Eastern country.

A shocking report prepared by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Prime Minister Putin on the just completed meeting between China’s Vice Premier Li Keqiang and former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger states that the Chinese were told that former Florida Governor John Ellis “Jeb” Bush, brother to the former US President and son of another, will be elected as the next American leader despite his currently not even being on the ballot.

Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping met with Jeb Bush [photo top left] yesterday at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing where both pledged to advance cooperation between their two countries and, this report says, agreed that once Bush had taken office a ‘new era’ would begin in US-China relations.

According to this report, Kissinger told Keqiang that the Republican Party election process to select their nominee to run against President Obama was“completely manipulated” to ensure that their 2012 Convention would be “deadlocked” thus allowing for Jeb Bush to be nominated as a “consensus candidate” and thus his parties leader.

The path to a deadlocked convention, this report says Kissinger told the Chinese, lies in neither current Republican frontrunners Governor Mitt Romney or Congressman Ron Paul having enough delegates to ensure their nomination on the first ballot after which their supporters will be free to nominate anyone they so choose.

In order to ensure a deadlocked convention, this report continues, Kissinger noted that Romney will obtain his delegates from what are called Primary States while Paul will receive his from those holding caucuses and “open” primaries, with neither of them receiving enough votes to secure their nominations.

Political analysis on the US election do, indeed, note that Paul’s path to the Republican nomination lies in the caucus and open primary States which shows what is called his “secret path to victory.”

To the most shocking aspects of this report are the comments attributed to Kissinger that claim the entire American electoral system is under the control of their National Security Agency (NSA) which controls the computers used in their elections and whose outcome is determined by their elites, not the citizens themselves.

In a dire move bolstering Kissinger’s claim of a rigged US election was yesterdays news that the giant global election firm SCYTL, which describes itself as the ‎worldwide leader in secure electronic voting and electoral modernization, had purchased the United States most dominant election results reporting company thus insuring these people would never have true or total access as to who would actually win any of their elections.

Even worse, this report continues, the purchase by SCYTL of the private corporate site controlled by SOE software, which operates under the name ClarityElections.Com and controls the election results in over 525 US jurisdictions, was its being financed by the global investment giant Carlyle Group that was founded by the Bush and Bin Laden families nearly 25 years ago.

When queried by Chinese officials as to why Obama was allowed to be elected instead of Jeb Bush in the last US election, this report continues, Kissinger replied that the American public was not prepared for a continuation of the Bush-Clinton Dynasties that have, in fact, ruled the United States since the 1981 coup d’état staged against President Ronald Regan after he was nearly assassinated by the son of the then Vice President George H.W. Bush’s main business partner.

Kissinger further stated to the Chinese, this report says, that Obama was a “safe choice” to be an “interim leader” as besides his being a member of the Bush family (Obama is former President George W. Bush’s cousin by blood) his mother, Ann Dunham/Soetoro, was a “prized” CIA asset who was dispatched from Hawaii to Indonesia in 1967, along with seven year-old Barack Obama, to infiltrate villages in Java to carry out a CIA survey of political leanings among the Javanese population and whose “handler” was George H.W. Bush who a few years later became Director of the Central Intelligence Agency.

Kissinger added, this report says, that by putting Obama in office they were, also, able to secure the passing of draconian new laws in the United States that otherwise wouldn’t have been allowed to pass due to the overwhelming objections of American liberals and progressives, but who now are all but silent as the last vestiges of the US Constitution are being swept away.

Being ignored by these American liberals and progressives, however, are that the laws being passed by the Obama regime are intended to be used against them and include the power of the US President to designate anyone he so chooses as a “terrorist,” kill them without charges or trial, hold American citizens in prison, also without charges or trial, and, under a new law being pushed through the US Congress, would give the US government the power to strip Americans of their citizenship without being convicted of being “hostile” against the United States.

Though the claims made by Kissinger to China detailing how the election process in the United States has now been completely destroyed are beyond appalling, it does not, on the other hand, come as surprising from a “war criminal” who once boasted “It is not a matter of what is true that counts, but a matter of what is perceived to be true.”

To the American people themselves it remains to be seen if they will ever awaken to what is true…one can only hope they will, before all is lost…forever.

The world is facing a serious systemic crisis, Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said in an article published on his election website and in the Izvestiya daily.

“By their scale, today’s global imbalances are such that they can hardly be overcome within the framework of the current system,” the premier wrote.

“Fundamentally, what the world is facing today is a serious systemic crisis, a tectonic process of global transformation. This is a visible manifestation of a transition to a new cultural, economic, technological and geopolitical era,” Putin said.

He said the world is entering a turbulent period.

“This period will be long and painful. No illusions should be cherished,” the prime minister said.

Russia will hold presidential elections on March 4, 2012. Putin, who held the presidential post in 2000-2008, is considered the most likely candidate to win them.

Chicago is preparing itself for a biological attack with the recent unveiling of a new 40,000 square-foot, fourteen story state-of the-art medical decontamination facility.

Last Friday the Robert R. McCormick Foundation Center for Advanced Emergency Response at the Rush University Medical Center opened its doors for the first time.

The new facility is fully equipped to handle a sudden influx of patients from a biological attack or other mass casualty incident.

To help prevent the spread of infectious agents, the facility includes a series of interconnected pods that can be isolated.

These pods contain their own decontamination showers and large storage tanks to collect contaminated water run-off from patients.

“The center brings an unprecedented level of preparedness to Chicago in the event of a bioterrorist attack, a deadly pandemic or an industrial accident sending hazardous materials seeping into the streets,” said Dino Rumoro, the Rush University’s chairman of emergency medicine.

Rumoro added that the facility is unique to the United States.

He explained, “The concept of the new emergency room is not that novel, but putting together all the key elements of this center is novel. In an event of an emergency, we will closely coordinate all of our work with neighboring institutions and the city’s office of emergency management and communications.”

When not in use during a major attack, the new facility will function as a traditional emergency room with sixty treatment bays and a surge capacity of 133 percent.

“Since we are committed to providing unprecedented disaster response and due to our affiliation with the military, being able to conduct coordinated large-scale decontamination inside and outside the hospital is a major public health responsibility,” Rumoro said.

The Rush bio-decontamination facility was made possible thanks to a $7.5 million grant from the Robert R. McCormick Foundation along with grants from the Department of Defense and the Department of Energy.

A failed Russian probe designed to travel to a moon of Mars but stuck in Earth orbit will come crashing down within hours, likely in a shower of fragments that survive the fiery re-entry.

The unmanned Phobos Ground is one of the heaviest and most toxic space derelicts ever to crash to Earth, but space officials and experts say the risks are minimal as its orbit is mostly over water and most of the probe’s structure will burn up in the atmosphere anyway.

Russia’s space agency Roscosmos said the Phobos-Ground will crash between 1641 and 2105 GMT (11:41 a.m. and 4:05 p.m. EST). It could come down anywhere along the route of its next few orbits, which would include Europe, southeast Asia, Australia and South America. The U.S., Canada and much of Russia are outside the risk zone.

“The resulting risk isn’t significant,” said Prof. Heiner Klinkrad, Head of The European Space Agency’s Space Debris Office that is monitoring the probe’s descent.

He wouldn’t say where exactly the probe may enter the atmosphere, but said that “most of Europe is excluded from an impact risk.”

Roscosmos predicts that only between 20 and 30 fragments of the Phobos probe with a total weight of up to 200 kilograms (440 pounds) will survive the re-entry and plummet to Earth.

Klinkrad agreed with that assessment, adding that about 100 metric tons of space junk fall on Earth every year. “This is 200 kilograms out of these 100 tons,” he said.

Thousands of pieces of derelict space vehicles orbit Earth, occasionally posing danger to astronauts and satellites in orbit, but as far as is known, no one has ever been hurt by falling space debris.

The Phobos-Ground weighs 13.5 metric tons (14.9 tons), and that includes a load of 11 metric tons (12 tons) of highly toxic rocket fuel intended for the long journey to the Martian moon of Phobos. It has been left unused as the probe got stuck in orbit around Earth shortly after its Nov. 9 launch.

Roscosmos says all of the fuel will burn up on re-entry, a forecast Klinkrad said was supported by calculations done by NASA and the ESA. He said the craft’s tanks are made of aluminum alloy that has a very low melting temperature, and they will burst at an altitude of more than 100 kilometers.

“These tanks are expected to release the fuel above 100 kilometers, and then the fuel is going to burn in the atmosphere and later the tanks are going to burn themselves as well,” Klinkrad said in a telephone interview from his office in Berlin.

The space era has seen far larger spacecraft to crash. NASA’s Skylab space station that went down in 1979 weighed 77 metric tons (85 tons) and Russia’s Mir space station that deorbited in 2001 weighed about 130 metric tons (143 tons). Their descent fueled fears around the world, but the wreckage of both fell far away from populated areas.

The $170-million Phobos-Ground was Russia’s most expensive and the most ambitious space mission since Soviet times. The spacecraft was intended to land on the crater-dented, potato-shaped Martian moon, collect soil samples and fly them back to Earth, giving scientists precious materials that could shed more light on the genesis of the solar system.

Russia’s space chief has acknowledged the Phobos-Ground mission was ill-prepared, but said that Roscosmos had to give it the go-ahead so as not to miss the limited Earth-to-Mars launch window.

Its predecessor, Mars-96, which was built by the same Moscow-based NPO Lavochkin company, also suffered an engine failure and crashed shortly after its launch in 1996. Its crash drew strong international fears because of some 200 grams of plutonium onboard. The craft eventually showered its fragments over the Chile-Bolivia border in the Andes Mountains, and the pieces were never recovered.

The worst ever radiation spill from a derelict space vehicle came in January 1978 when the nuclear-powered Cosmos 954 satellite crashed over northwestern Canada. The Soviets claimed the craft completely burned up on re-entry, but a massive recovery effort by Canadian authorities recovered a dozen fragments, most of which were radioactive.

The Phobos-Ground also contains a tiny quantity of the radioactive metal Cobalt-57 in one of its instruments, but Roscosmos said it poses no threat of radioactive contamination.

According to this GRU report, Russian analysis of encrypted singles intelligence emanating from the southeast region of the United States known as the State of Arizona on 6 January “exactly mirrored” those of US Military hit squads operating in various regions of Asia, Africa, South America and the Middle East, and that a further “burst” of this type, also, occurred on 8 January.

In analyzing events occurring in Arizona at the exact time of the first “burst” on 6 January, this GRU report says, it was discovered that two people had been gunned down by an “unnamed assailant” and were named in US press reports as Carol Raynsford and her partner James Johnson.

Raynsford, described by her family as a “shaman on spiritual quest,” and her partner Johnson, this GRU report continues, had reportedly met Maras during a book signing event held in Sedona, Arizona hours before their death and from eyewitnesses were described as “very interested” in what he had written.

This GRU report then says that two days later, 8 January, during the second intercepted “burst” Maricopa County Sheriff’s Deputy William Coleman, 50, was reported shot and killed by Maras while answering a burglary call at a medical building in Anthem, Arizona that the British press describes as follows: “Coleman knocked on Maras’ van to rouse him. Maras responded by opening the vehicle’s sliding door and firing 29 shots, authorities said. Other deputies got off 41 rounds and killed Maras.”

Though Maras has been accused of by US police authorities of killing Raynsford and Johnson, they have not named a motive as to why a highly respected researcher and author who described himself as “trained for war by the U.S. Marines Corps infantry and then turned pacifist” would murder unarmed people he had just met.

Maras’ neighbors, speaking to the US press, likewise, voiced astonishment that he would harm anybody as he was about to launch a book tour that would bring him to Colorado and Hawaii with neighbor John Demarr stating “It’s just mind-boggling because he seemed like a normal guy. He seemed like a cool guy, just a normal guy, don’t expect that from him.”

The “most likely” scenario that occurred in all of these deaths, this GRU report says, was that Maras was the “target” of a US Military hit squad that failed to kill him outright on 6 January and, instead, killed Raynsford and Johnson. Having a “high likelihood” that Maras was wounded in the initial attack, this GRU report speculates, is the reason he was then found and gunned down on 8 January at the medical building he most likely burgled for medicines and supplies.

US propaganda media reports state that Maras was homeless, maybe despondent and was living out of his van, but countered by the fact that he, in fact, lived in Kihei, Hawaii as attested to by his neighbors.

As to why Maras would be targeted for assassination, this GRU report continues, was the planned follow-up to his May, 2010 book “Open Your Eyes To 2012 and Beyond”  that focused on the supposed end of the world later this year and the involvement of paranormal races in human history, including aliens and giants and wherein he maintained that the US had built a military base on the far side of the Moon.

In Maras’ exact description of his book he wrote:

Known as a “Chicago Marine” for his being a member of the 2nd Battalion 24th Marines located in Chicago, this GRU report says, Maras could very well have had (or as a reservist still had) access to highly classified material substantiating many of the claims made in his book necessitating his “removal.”

To whatever the truest facts are relating to these senseless killings it is not in our knowing, other than to mention that is beyond comprehension that such a respected researcher and author like Maras would“all of sudden” kill two innocent people he didn’t know, for no reason whatsoever, and follow that with engaging in a gun fight while being vastly outnumbered.

Organised crime is the biggest earner in Italy – with a turnover of more £100 billion a year – according to a report by business chiefs.

Extortion and intimidation is used to extract millions from shopkeepers, restaurants, cinemas, construction companies and thousands of other businesses as the godfathers spread their criminal enterprises across the whole of the country.

As a result of the ongoing economic crisis the Mafia is also cashing in with its traditional money-raising means of loan sharking – charging extortionate interest rates to hard-pressed businesses who are unable to raise funds.

According to a report titled Criminality’s Grip On Business, the various Mafia groups across Italy make a profit of around £116 billion a year – a figure equivalent to seven per cent of the country’s GDP.

It is a massive amount of money leaving the economy and passing from businesses straight into the pockets of gangsters.

The report said that ‘every minute’ a business or commercial activity was directly affected by organised crime – with no part of the country escaping, and with a surge of activity in the capital Rome.

Marco Venturi, president of Confesercenti – an association of small- and medium-sized companies, and publisher of the report – described the Mafia as ‘the biggest bank in the country’ with liquid assets of more than £50 billion.

Mr Venturi added that, as a result of extortion and loan sharking, more than 190,000 businesses had been forced to shut in the past three years alone.

He explained that Rome was the prime city targeted by organised crime gangs, with the Sicilian Mafia, Naples Camorra, Calabrian N’drangheta and the Sacra Corona Unita from the Puglia region all having an active ‘financial interest’ in the capital city.

Only last year it was revealed that the N’drangheta were using several famous restaurants and wine bars along the famous Via Veneto in the centre of Rome for money laundering, as well as being targeted for extortion.

Loan sharking was also rampant in the Sicilian cities of Palermo and Catania – as well as Naples in the south and Reggio Calabria – with those who failed to meet repayments being subjected to violence and intimidation by mobsters.

ORGANISED CRIME IN ITALY … THE MAIN PLAYERS

Sicilian Mafia: Also known as the Cosa Nostra, the 19th century criminal syndicate has been made famous by Hollywood – and its name is now a generic term for any organised criminal network with similar structure, methods, and interests.

Camorra: A secret society from the region of Campania, it is one of the oldest and largest criminal organisations in Italy. Unlike the Mafia’s ‘Godfather’ pyramid structure, the Camorra clans act independently, making it more resilient when bosses are arrested or killed.

‘Ndrangheta: This 19th century syndicate from the Calabria region is considered to be one of the most powerful criminal organisations in the world – with a remarkable ability to migrate to other countries, including Argentina, the Netherlands and Australia.

Sacra Corona Unita: The youngest of the syndicates, set up in the 1970s, the SCU specialises in smuggling – from drugs and weapons to people. They charge other criminal organisations ‘landing rights’ to the Apulian coast in the south-east – a gateway to and from countries like Albania.

The report said extortionate money lending had become an easy and lucrative way to make money – compared to the more traditional means of drug running, arms smuggling, prostitution and gambling.

It added: ‘The classic neighbourhood or street loan shark is on the way out, giving way to organised loan sharking that is well connected with professional circles, and operates with the connivance of high-level professionals.

‘This is extortion with a clean face. Through their professions, they know the financial position of their victims perfectly.’

Mr Venturi said: ‘There are parts of the country that are controlled by organised crime, and the ongoing financial crisis – coupled with the lack of money – has made this problem even more dramatic. The government is tackling the issue but more attention is needed to stop the shadow of organised crime spreading further.’

Italy’s Interior Ministry has a special department dealing with extortion and loan sharking. Called the Anti-Racket Commission, it is headed by former police chief Giancarlo Trevisone.

Chief Trevisone said: ‘Our objective is to reconquer the territory that is in the hands of the Mafia.’

The Russian Navy’s warships patrolling the eastern Mediterranean Sea were heading for a Syrian port, the state-owned Itar-Tass news agency reported on Friday.

The warships were scheduled to arrive in Tartus, a point of logistics supplies of the Russian navy on Saturday, according to preliminary information.

“It is planned that the port of Tartus will be visited by a big anti-submarine ship of the Northern Fleet ‘Admiral Chabanenko’ and an escort ship ‘Yaroslav Mudry’,” Itar-Tass quoted a source with the Russian Navy as saying.

“Our ships are supposed to stay in Syria for several days,” the source said, without giving more details about the warships’ mission in the country.

Russian Navy dispatched their warships to the Mediterranean sea in November, and claimed the move was part of scheduled exercises and had no connection with the situation in Syria.

The warships, led by “Admiral Kuznetsov”, the country’s only aircraft carrier, have started their patrol missions in the Northeast Atlantic and the Mediterranean Sea since Dec. 6 to “ensure the security of the sea navigation and other Russian maritime economic activities,” according to Russian Navy.
