Israeli war game rehearses ‘Iran attack’

Israel has joined forces with Greece to conduct an aerial maneuver to practice long-range missions and mid-air fueling, a report says.

The war game codenamed “MINOAS 2010″, is carried out at a Greek air base in Souda Bay, on the island of Crete, Haaretz reported.

During the exercise, the Israeli Air Force tested 10 planes including five F-15I Rams and five F16I Sufas. The planes are designed for long-range attacks.

Israeli CH-53 helicopters were also used in the exercise, practicing rescue missions for pilots, while an IAF Boeing took part in aerial refueling.

According to the report, Greece, which possesses the sophisticated S-300 anti-missile system — which Iran is interested in acquiring, participated in the maneuver with fifteen F16s.

Greece better be careful in how it conducts its policies regarding Iran. It already has a $450 million trade deficit with Iran as a result of its almost exclusive dependency upon that country for oil, and with Iran more or less not being very much in need of Greek exports. No other Western country is as economically linked with Iran as is Greece, and in this aspect of their relationship, Iran clearly has the upper hand. It could easily choose to punish Greece by cutting off the oil supply, and with Greece in its current financial state, that would be the ultimate crippler. Moreover, while Iran would certainly not dare to strike at Israel in a military sense, it is certainly capable of overwhelming Greece in just about any military setting or scenario. This could also be a punishment for Greece reneging on the military pact it signed with Iran a few years ago. Like it or not, Greece has no choice but to stay by the side of Iran, and not dare to antagonize it on the pain of suffering grave consequences.
