Travelers advisory: the rules are changing yet again. If you or those you know have travel planned in the near future, prepare to be harassed and harried to maintain your safety. The Fear-o-Meter is registering off the charts again and airlines would rather be safe than sorry, so more restrictions apply.
The dust has not yet settled, so it is unclear which airlines are imposing what, but some of the new restrictions being imposed appear to include a new rule that passengers must remain in their seats during the last hour of both domestic and foreign flights (no using the restroom, so quick buy stock in Depends diapers); security searches will be conducted both before entering the boarding area and before boarding the plan; passengers will be allowed only one carry-on item (how that is defined may vary by airline); and passengers will be prohibited from having any items in their laps or seat-area during the last hour of the flight. What parameters will be established to define said items allowed or not allowed in the lap remains to be seen. Will the prohibition on lap items include books, magazines, water bottles, hand-held electronic games, and babies? Definitely no laptops. Some airlines are prohibiting pillows and blankets.
