UN report issues dire forecast for world economy

While ignorant folks and big mouths are talking about a recovery and “glimmers of hope”, countless institutes, analysts, think tanks and international associations are trying to warn about the dire state of the world and its economy. The latest such report is from the United Nations. The United Nations’ Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) updated its “World Economic Situation and Prospects” report last Thursday:

- World economic growth this year of negative 2.6 per cent

- World trade expected to decline 11.1 per cent this year

DESA’s director of the development policy and analysis division Rob Vos said there were “no green shoots to be seen which could signal beginnings of a new spring in this still very wintry landscape”. The report goes on. Fact is the state of the global economy is disatrous. And anyone talking about a recovery or lacking any initiative to tackle the reality on the ground should be held accountable for their actions and especially for their words. Only once the collective begins to accept the state of the global economy, and implement real solutions, can any real recovery begin.
